SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Exclusive: Aaron Ashmore on Duncan's Expanded Role in Locke & Key Season Two

***This interview contains major season two spoilers***

Aaron AshmoreIn season two of Locke & Key, Duncan, played by Aaron Ashmore, has his memories of magic returned to him, which include the ability to forge keys, which is what the antagonist of the season, Gabe/Dutch (Griffin Gluck), wants most.

This season, viewers get a lot more of Duncan’s story, including his relationship with Brian (Milton Barnes), explained Ashmore in an exclusive interview with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision. “We sort of alluded to the fact that Duncan was in a relationship, or sort of mentioned that, but we never really got to see too much of his backstory. So, I think that's really nice that we get to see some of his romantic interest.”

A big part of Duncan’s story this season is when his memories are returned. “I think we just lay into a little bit more throughout the second season, of where Duncan's coming from exactly, the whole memory loss element, because it's not so much that he just can't remember magic, like the rest of the adults; there's another element to it, where pieces of his past have been removed. He's struggling not only with that, but also this idea of potentially seeing these magic things, and then that being erased.”

Exclusive: Jenna Elfman Teases June Remains "Hypervigilant" in Fear the Walking Dead

***The following interview contains spoilers for 7.03***

Jenna ElfmanWhen we last left them, June, played by Jenna Elfman and her father-in-law, John Dorie Sr. (Keith Carradine), had gone underground into the bunker left by Teddy (John Glover) to get away from the nuclear blast. This week’s episode sees the characters having to learn to live together and make decisions as one. Things, however, don’t go quite as expected when after John uses the radio, some dangerous people start trying to get into the bunker. To make matters worse, John, who is an alcoholic, is going through withdrawal and starts hallucinating Teddy’s murder victim, who it always haunted him he was never able to find.

The bunker in which the two filmed the episode, was based on a real-life bunker and was made out of real school buses Elfman told Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, and it made for a great claustrophobic scene. “They didn't chop off the end of the school bus and have it be open or anything for crew; we had to actually go through the door of the school bus to go in and out. So, it was super stuffy and claustrophobic and encroaching in that way, which, as an actor, you're like, ‘Yes, this is good!’ You'll take all the help you can get environmentally. So, that was awesome. I think our production designer did such a great job making use of that.”

Exclusive: Ted Sutherland on Percy's Journey on The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2

***The following interview contains spoilers for 2.05***

Ted SutherlandRecently on The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Percy, played by Ted Sutherland, put the group in jeopardy when he tried to kill Huck (Annet Mahendru) in revenge for her killing his uncle, but he was stopped in time by Will (Jelani Alladin). On tonight’s all new episode, when the plan is put into motion for Iris (Aliyah Royale) and Felix (Nico Tortorella) to pretend to get captured so that they will be taken to the CRM facility where Iris’s sister, Hope (Alexa Mansour), and father (Joe Holt) are currently staying, Percy joins them at the last minute, taking Elton (Nicholas Cantu)’s coat, pretending to be him.

According to Sutherland, who talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, Percy is getting closer to Iris this season, but he’s still figuring things out. “I think he's finding himself…We're picking up right from where last season left off. So, all of the emotions are still very, very raw. And it's not like Percy is, or anyone is, a fully formed individual. He doesn't have his emotions figured out. He's not completely mature, but it's kind of his journey of becoming an adult, of maturing. I think he's figuring out all of his emotions, and love is one of them. And it's very complicated, especially when you don't trust, and you're not willing to be vulnerable.”

Exclusive: Fear the Walking Dead’s Keith Carradine on John Dorie’s Impulsive Behavior

***The following interview contains spoilers for 7X03***

Keith CarradineIn tonight’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead, “Cindy Hawkins,” June (Jenna Elfman) is holed up in Teddy (John Glover)’s bunker with John Dory, Sr., who turns out to be a really bad roommate. John breaks all the rules he and June have agreed to and, as his hallucinations escalate, eventually leaves her pinned under a cave-in with dangerous strangers closing in.

“I don't believe that he intentionally wants to endanger anyone,” explained actor Keith Carradine in an exclusive interview with SciFi Vision. “I think that he cannot help himself at this point. He just can't stop himself. I think that that most addicts will tell you that when they are deep into an addiction, that's what it becomes for them. It's out of their control.

“…He's putting them both at risk as a result of his compulsive, impulsive behaviors, and his inability to resist the drive in him to get the answers to these things,” he continued, “I think that that is what's putting them both at risk…Their ability to get through it and the circumstances that just by pure luck enable him to survive, I think in the end he's a different person because of that.”

Doctor Who: Flux - The Halloween Apocalypse - 13.02 - Recap & Review

***Following the review is a recap, and both contain spoilers for tonight's episode, so be sure you watch it first if you don't want to be spoiled.***

Doctor Who: FluxToday, Doctor Who premiered a special Halloween episode, “The Halloween Apocalypse,” written by Chris Chibnall and directed by Jamie Magnus Stone, that stands as part one of six of a season long story arc. The episode was fast-paced, but with a lot of different storylines intermingled it left me a bit confused about what the flux was actually happening.

I loved that the episode takes place during Halloween. The series is known for doing fun holiday episodes and the departure was nice. It also made for some great dialog between Dan (John Bishop) and Karvanista (Craige Els) when he thought he was simply someone dressed as a dog.

I really was pleased with Dan as the new companion; he brought some new energy to the group in the absence of Graham (Bradley Walsh) and Ryan (Tosin Cole). He seems to have a good sense of humor and will likely bring some of the comic relief that would be missing without Graham. I also think the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Dan, and Yaz (Mandip Gill) fit fairly well together as a team thus far.

Exclusive Video Interview: Justine Bateman on Writing and Directing Violet, Now in Select Cities

Justine BatemanOpening in theaters in Los Angeles and New York today and nationally on November 5th, Violet, written and directed by Justine Bateman, follows the title character played by Olivia Munn. Violet spends her days making fear-based decisions by listening to self-criticisms and self-doubts (voiced by Justin Theroux) and misses out on the things she wants in life rather than living free like her friend Red (Luke Bracey). It isn’t until Violet realizes she has to ignore the lies she tells herself and face her fears head on that she can do things differently and live the professional, personal, and romantic life that she really wants.

According to Bateman, who talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, she named the characters Violet and Red, because they represent opposites, although she didn’t realize it when she first wrote it. “When you look at the light spectrum, the visual light spectrum for humans, you've got red on one end and purple on the other…Red’s the polar opposite, as far as how he lives his life. So, she has to go across the spectrum to get to where she needs to by the end.”

Orphan Black: The Next Chapter - 2.01 Recap

***The following recap contains spoilers for Season Two Chapter 1 - There is also a spoiler-free review available. There is also a recap of the season one finale if you need a refresher.***

Orphan Black: The Next ChapterOrphan Black: The Next Chapter finally returned today for season two. The story picks up where we last left everyone. After Charlotte revealed it to the press, the world is now in the know about the truth about the existence of clones. However, it’s not going as she had hoped. A lot of the clones are not happy after being lied to and many people still do not accept them.

Charlotte is helping run a crisis hotline trying to help clones come to terms with what they are. A woman calls that has locked herself in a bathroom to get away from her significant other, who is screaming at her for lying and accuses her of not even being human. Although hesitant to do it for fear police could escalate the situation, Charlotte coaxes an address out of the woman and Felix gives it to the police.

Vivi meets with Arun to tell him she is going on vacation. He questions if she is going to see the clones, but she is angry with them – their “pretend family” broke her cover, and she even had to save them. Having such a recognizable face doesn’t make for a good spy, and she can’t get a field mission and has been relegated to disk duty. She gives Arun the excuse for leaving that she wants decent espresso and Cuban food. All he cares is that she comes back again. Not used to talking to him in person, she isn’t sure if he’s being supportive and really cares or is just pitying her – she’s bad at flirting. He tells her that there are people who know how good she is and they will figure out a way around it. She’s not so sure but tells him that she will be back in five days.

Jenna Elfman & Keith Carradine Tease Fear the Walking Dead 7.03, This Sunday on AMC

Jenna Elfman and Keith CarradineWhen we first see June, played by Jenna Elfman, and John Dorie Senior, played by Keith Carradine, in this week's upcoming episode of Fear the Walking Dead, they are holed up in the bunker that Teddy (John Glover) built for after he set off the nuclear bomb. June recently lost her husband (Garret Dillahunt), John his son, so emotions will be running high. Elfman told SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable interview, that although it’s a blessing they have the bunker and each other, it has multiple layers. “She hasn't even properly had any time to mourn John at all, because it happened, and then she met John Senior, and then that is its own can of worms. Then, we come back [and] have to go face this enemy…and then, the nuclear bomb goes off. So, it's a pile-on situation emotionally for June… That we get to be the beneficiaries of [the bunker] and to be with family, John Dorie Senior, [is] a blessing. However, the two of them also have inner demons and trauma, and this is the worst possible environment.”

Carradine talked to SciFi Vision a bit about some of those demons. “Everybody's dealing with their foibles, and John has got a secret. You can only keep a secret like he's keeping for so long before it gets revealed and has to be dealt with.”
