Tonight, Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber premieres on Showtime. This season, the anthology series explores how the creation of Uber, driven by CEO Travis Kalanick, changed the world.

In the series, many of the cast play characters based on real people. According to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who stars as Kalanick, playing a real person can in ways make the role easier. “[Y]ou just have so much to go on,” Gordon-Levitt told Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during the recent TCA panel. “…You can go to this well of the real person and see if you can find some inspiration there.”

Uma Thurman, who plays Arianna Huffington, told the site that you have to have a bit of humility to play a real person. “[Y]ou are going to be wrong,” said Thurman, “and there might be some things that are right, and it's a creative process…I kind of felt like it was impossible to get it right, but I would play the writing and listen to the sound and hope for the best.”

The actress called it an “interpretation of interpretations.”

Abby Hernandez was just fourteen years old when she disappeared. Her abductor held her for nine months, subjecting her to sexual and psychological abuse before she returned home just as suddenly as she vanished. A decade after her return, Lifetime rounds out its February lineup with a new movie based on the teen’s harrowing ordeal. Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez is the true story of how Abby was abducted and held in a soundproof container. Despite daily abuse, she kept her cool and never lost hope that she would see her family again.

The film stars Lindsay Navarro (Life XP) as Abby, Erica Durance (Supergirl, Saving Hope) as her mother, Zenya, and Ben Savage (Girl Meets World) as kidnapper Nathaniel Kibby.

This is not just another drama ripped from the headlines; Abby Hernandez was an executive producer of the film. She told journalists that getting on board to tell her story was not a tough decision.

“It’s nothing new to me. It’s in here constantly,” she said, tapping her head, “has been in there since 2013. I’m almost numb to it, you know what I mean?” When Hernandez first returned home, she was reluctant to share the details of her captivity, even with police. “But we're in a day and age now where I think it’s encouraged to be honest about what's going on. I don't feel as scared anymore.”

At the end of the most recent episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Eugene (Josh McDermitt) came to Alexandria with Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) and some soldiers to sell them on the idea of the Commonwealth, although it wasn’t his decision. “I think Eugene definitely didn't want to share the location of his group, otherwise he would have done that up front,” said McDermitt to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable interview. “That's a valuable piece of information. It potentially puts lives at risk when you start sharing that, but he found himself in a pickle.”

McDermitt also said that he is still carrying the guilt of that and talked to the site about what it could mean. “There're all these things that are happening, and so in this extreme emotional state, he's questioning whether he's able to trust what he's doing and saying, and the people around him. So, to offer up that information, it's just touching on some of those things that he's already having anxiety about. It's like, ‘Oh, boy, I just did this because I had to, but is now more bad going to come from this?’ Because, as we see on this show, any decision has extreme consequences.”

Recenty Reacher, which is based on the book series by Lee Child and has already been renewed for a second season, came to Prime Video. Harvey Guillén, who plays the part of medical examiner Jasper, purposely did not read the books until after filming so that he could bring more of himself into the role. “I'm glad I didn't,” said Guillén. “I try not to do that with any of the projects that I do, just so I'm not persuaded to [do] what was written…because then you don't bring yourself into the character. You’ve got to find a little bit of yourself.”

Guillén related to the quiet nature of Jasper, who is quite unlike his character of Guillermo in What We Do in the Shadows. “With Jasper, I feel that he's a mama's boy,” said the actor. “He's very [much] wanting to stay home and whatnot…Growing up, it was just me and my mom for a while, and she was a single parent. So, it really kind of touched me, and I relate to him in that way, but also liking the idea of stability, but also not too much craziness…I think that, for Jasper, it was just nice to like a simple life and wanting that quietness that is just nice once in a while, just a peace and quiet. I remember really liking that.”

Reacher, which is based on the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Childs, recently premiered on Prime Video. The first season is based on Childs’ debut novel, Killing Floor. In the town of Margrave, Georgia, Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) is arrested for murder, but it soon becomes clear to Detective Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin) that they need his help in solving the case. Joining the investigation is Officer Roscoe Conklin, played by Willa Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald, who recently talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview, loved Roscoe from the beginning and was eager to see her journey unfold. “She is a spitfire,” said the actress. “She has such a clear opinion on situations and such a clear sense of self, and to get to play a character like that is just really fun, because they move through the world in such a different way. I was just compelled by her charisma and her kind of just kick-ass character, and I was excited to see where where that character went over the course of the season.”

Tonight, The Walking Dead returned to AMC for all-new episodes of the final season. At the end of the episode, Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), accompanied by Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and some soldiers, invited the residents of Alexandria to join the Commonwealth community. During a recent roundtable interview, members of the cast talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision about how difficult it is for their characters to stop moving and settle down and how they are dealing with that. Eleanor Matsurra, who plays Yumiko on the series, doesn’t know if they can. “I don't think it’s in anyone's nature to sit still, kick back, and relax and be like, ‘We did it; we found it; we found the place,’ said Matsuura. “They know what's out there. They're mistrustful of it from the start, even someone like Yumiko, who's really living a very privileged side of the experience of the Commonwealth and is certainly reaping the benefits of a system that is always going to serve her well, because she's upper class in this world.”

The actress added that it's partially because Yumiko has seen too much. “She's knows too much to survive this long for her to just accept this so easily and to not be savvy to the things going on around her…It's just not realistic. I think they all know that too well, which is why they can never just sort of sit down and enjoy it.”

Lauren Ridloff, who plays Connie, seconded that. “You can't just erase our history,” the actress told SciFi Vision. “I mean, I think that is just impossible to do…[Being at the Commonwealth is] almost like an amalgamation of what's happening throughout going through the apocalypse, and now with that knowledge and with that experience that [we] have going back to our old selves, do we continue to make those same decisions based on the post-apocalyptic situation? And how does that influence our behavior and our decisions within a quote unquote, normal society?...I think that's an interesting thing to explore throughout the season.”

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches tells the story of forbidden love in the world of witches, vampires, and daemons. Last week SciFi Vision caught up with series star, Teresa Palmer, before the eagerly-awaited finale, to talk about Diana Bishop’s final journey and what it means to the actress.

Palmer worked closely with Harkness through the seasons on building Diana, and it really helped her to find her footing as the character. “It was so empowering for me,” said Palmer. “She was like, ‘You are Diana; that's why we cast you. I chose you, because of your spirit, your essence.’

The actress continued that Harkness put a lot of herself in the character, and the two of them see a lot of each other in themselves, but not when it comes to academia, which caused Palmer some doubt. The author was quick to reassure her, however. “I’d start obsessing about the little things,” said the actress. “…I think I was vulnerable, because I kept saying, ‘Well, I'm not an academic, and I don't find pleasure in academics the way you do…’ She was like, ‘But it's all in you. It's all there. Just lean into it.’ I think that that felt very liberating.”

During the interview Palmer also talked about how much Diana has grown since the beginning of the series. “When we see her in the first season, she's still running away from who she truly is and really living a life that doesn't serve her in any way; I can tell by looking back at that first season. I was like, ‘Oh, she's such a shell of herself, of who she ultimately becomes.’…It's not until even midway through the second season, where I'm like, ‘Oh, she's really landing into a place where she's empowered and sitting in her authenticity,’ which is really lovely to watch.

Lifetime’s latest Saturday night thriller is a cautionary tale about the dangers of technology. Inspired by actual events, Caught in His Web tells the horrifying story of three high school students (Malia Baker, Alison Thorton, Emma Tremblay) who are each ensnared by a creepy cyberbully who coerces them into sharing nude photos, then harasses, stalks, and blackmails them. Garcelle Beauvais (The Magicians) costars as a police detective who helps the girls identify and turn the tables on their harasser.

In a recent Zoom panel, the cast spoke at length about the film and the dangers that young people are exposed to through their smartphones and social media. As the parent of two teens, Beauvais feels the film sends an important message.

“One of the reasons why it was so important not only to be a part of [this movie] but to get the word out is because it can happen,” she told SciFi Vision, “and I'm always trying to use things as cautionary tales for my boys.  I always say don't ever give your personal information to anyone, but obviously these girls did, and they just got targeted.”

Yesterday, the back half of the final season of The Walking Dead flagship series premiered on AMC+, with a linear premiere to follow next Sunday on AMC. One of the themes this season has been about trust and losing that trust, especially when it comes to Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Leah. According to Lynn Collins, who plays Leah, that could make her more dangerous. “When people ask about Leah,” said Collins to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision during a recent roundtable, “and ‘is she a bad person; is she a good person?’ Well, in her mind, she's been betrayed by Daryl twice now. He left her, and now he lied to her, and he's choosing his people over her and her people. I know, for myself, when I have been betrayed, I feel like in some ways, I was never more dangerous, because a breaking of trust was so personally affronting to me…When it's broken, for me, personally, [it’s] very difficult to come back from.”

Killing Eve returns to BBC America for its eagerly anticipated fourth and final season on February 27th. After Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and Eve (Sandra Oh)'s conversation on the bridge at the end of last season, Eve is hellbent on revenge, while Villanelle sets out to prove that she's not the monster everyone thinks she is. Meanwhile, Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) continues to hunt down The Twelve and find the person responsible for ordering her son's murder.

Last week, a few members of the cast and the executive producers of the series got together for a panel as part of the TCA winter press tour to discuss the upcoming season.

When talking about returning to the series, star Comer said that working on the show is always a surprise. “The show definitely keeps you on your toes,” said Comer, “and it’s always so exciting getting to sit down with the script and see where it is that we’re headed. Sometimes when you start a season, you have a vague idea of where the story’s going to go, but a lot of the time it gets figured out as you go along and it’s very organic in that way.”

One of the themes that is explored this season is change and evolution for the characters. “There’re a lot of lessons that I think Villanelle learns that I don’t think she’s actually aware of,” said Comer. “I think she’s so desperate to change at the beginning, and I’m not sure that comes from a truthful place.”
