arrow_iconVarious events and relationships are coming to a head in this episode, and darkness is creeping into each and every character’s life.  It’s the preamble to the season finale, and there’s nothing better than seeing how assumptions and arrogance mix to make a touchy situation so much worse.  Oliver is about to find out that ending the mission is not nearly as simple as he thinks.

supernatural_iconWhen it comes to brutality against its main characters, Supernatural ranks up there at the top of the list.  This episode delivers blow after blow, and if there was any doubt that the demon/angel tablet plot arc is driving to a conclusion, it should be resolved at this stage.  I don’t want to see them go to the usual well and have Sam die, but at the same time, I’m not sure that it would be less than a mercy killing.

arrow_iconKicking things up a notch as the season arc rushes towards its conclusion, Arrow delivers resolution for a number of lingering mysteries while eschewing flashbacks to the island for flashbacks to the days leading up to the fateful voyage that led to Robert Queen’s death and Oliver’s experience on Purgatory.  It’s effectively the origin of “The Undertaking”, and while there are few surprises regarding those origins, it still manages to whet the appetite for the main event.

supernatural_iconI’ll start with the obvious: yes, I realized who the writers were for the episode pretty early.  And yes, I think some of their usual flaws crept into the script, particularly the awkward dialogue that didn’t quite ring true here and there.  But surprisingly, I found this to be one of their best efforts, and a strong episode for the season as a whole.

arrow_iconThe past few episodes have focused on circumstances that will force Oliver to reconsider his tactics, but it’s not going to be a short road from his current vigilante style to something more heroic.  While the previous two episodes were all about how easily one can step over the line, this scenario introduced a situation where being merciful can have unexpected consequences.

vampire-diaries-iconWith the backdoor pilot for The Originals coming quite soon, I suppose it was time to set up the impending visit to New Orleans.  I figured that’s where the various folks seeking out the cure would end up looking for Katherine, but instead, Elena finds her in the middle of a small town, where she has set herself up rather well as the semi-invisible mistress.  And she’s not alone.

supernatural_iconI suppose, after the previous episode, the Brothers Winchester deserved a bit of a break.  I’m not sure how much of a break this actually is, or whether or not a callback to “Adventures in Babysitting” was really necessary, but there we are.  And since the show has run a lot longer than anyone ever imagined it could, I suppose it’s time for the writers to address what it means for the Hunters to raise the next generation in the post-apocalyptic era.

arrow_iconRather quickly, the first season of Arrow is drawing towards its conclusion, and that means the pieces of the “undertaking” will be falling into place.  Not only that, but a lot of chickens will be coming home to roost.  Oliver gets a glimpse of what his example has wrought within The Glades, which leads him to a connection between the list and The Glades that he hadn’t quite put together yet.

vampire-diaries-iconDamon may like a few things about the new, liberated Elena, but not enough to keep her around without human emotions to help keep her in check.  And so he takes her to New York City, where in 1977, he went on a killing spree and learned a few things about his own limitations from an old friend.  Oh, and there’s also a potential lead on the whereabouts of Katherine and the cure, something that Elena is less and less interested in pursuing.

supernatural_iconThere are few things an episode of Supernatural can bring to the table above and beyond Castiel and Crowley to make it worthwhile.  Adding Meg to the equation is one of them.  Meg is one of the oldest villains of the series, and Rachel Miner has definitely made the role her own.  Her snarky line delivery couldn’t be more perfect, especially since it has to counterbalance one of the most grueling situations yet.
