It really had to take until the very near end of the season for this show to get good? There has been a marked improvement in the show's quality over the past few episodes, and it continues here. The writers have somehow pulled themselves out of the muck and come up with a more streamlined story that can be built on.

I should give credit where it's due: Catherine is a much better schemer and master manipulator than Siobhan ever was. All Siobhan ever wanted was to get money to run away with her lover, and maybe stick it to her twin sister and ex-husband as she leaves their lives permanently. Catherine has much clearer motives, goals, and methods.

There are times when I think I have to take notes on index cards for the complicated plotlines on this show. This episode made it feel like there were three or four different people who want either Bridget or Siobhan dead. On top of that, the writers pile on more about the Ponzi scheme being run by Martin/Charles and another scheme involving land being sold to get Andrew's money back. Though, he might not have that much money if he ends up getting caught perpetuating the Ponzi scheme.

This episode was running efficiently for about a half hour, stumbled a bit, then recovered its footing somewhat at the end. Frankly, I think that's quite an accomplishment given the narrative maze that's been created and passes for an overall plot. That's the impression the show gets when this is the first fairly straightforward episode done in a long time.

Apparently, Siobhan's goal now is to get Andrew to kill her sister and then she can go to the police or the SEC to expose his business Ponzi scheme, make sure he's in prison, then run off to happiness with Henry. At least, I think that's what her plan is. It changes on the fly so often and is dependent on a lot of contrivances to move from point to point.

This episode was full of characters standing around, talking. Which is not at all surprising being that the show is a soap opera playing in primetime, and daytime soaps have many scenes of just characters talking instead of taking action. It's not really all that different from what this show has been doing all season, but my interest in what happens to all of these characters continues to decline.

This show has settled into a particular pattern that strangely discards what makes for a compelling mystery in lieu of throwing out a bunch of twists that make little sense. This has been a consistent problem throughout the bulk of the season so I don't want to sound like I'm repeating myself. Both the plot and characters are completely lifeless, so it's hard to care about what happens in an episode. In fact, the episode caps off with a reveal that completely changes a core facet about a main character. It's jarring, and it put into question who I should even root for now to succeed on this show.

It feels like those responsible for making episodes of "Ringer" wants viewers to be surprised by the revelations they dole out in each episode. The thing is, those surprises are often telegraphed early and don't feel very earned. Everything that happened here wasn't as confusing as previous episodes, but it's missing that emotional connection to draw people in.
