In hot pursuit of his old nemesis, Michael must take down Anson Fullerton (Jere Burns) and find a way to free Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) from prison, where she is being targeted by a murderous foe. “Burn Notice” continues its revival tour with some “Official Business.” Unfortunately, the returning act is the CIA’s resident knuckle-heads, Bailey and Manaro, as the officials in question. Not content with contributing to Sam’s discharge from the Navy or the mission they bumbled around in last season, they’re back to call in Fiona’s CIA marker. They need to crack a high-tech arms dealer’s safe, and Fi has the right, um, assets to gain access. As the dealer, Durov, confirms during his initial frisking/mauling.

A funny thing happened on the way to “Burn Notice” adopting a whole new style of storytelling. The writers figured out they could use all the show’s familiar tropes to advance that storyline. As Team Westen methodically picks up the one or two bread crumbs that lead towards their goal, they recreate another classic situation from previous seasons. Previously, we actually saw Sam’s sugar mama, and a turf war was settled by pitting the two sides against each other. This time, Michael goes undercover with an attempt at a Boston accent, just to obtain Nate’s FBI file.

For "Burn Notice", it’s two steps forward (knocking off Anson and Nate), one step back (returning to a client-of-the-week). While folding Sam Axe’s personal life into that client keeps things entertaining, the show is still gun-shy about straying too far from its established formulas. The fallout from Nate’s demise is confined to the periphery, just as the arc elements used to be. While the plot-lines are more continuous, opportunities are being lost to deepen the character depth and dynamics.

By Jamie Ruby Last Thursday's episode of Burn Notice caused quite the uproar among fans. The episode had a lot going on: by the end of the episode, the problem with Anson Fullerton (Jere Burns) was over, but at a price. The mystery person who killed Anson took Michael (Jeffrey Donovan)'s brother Nate (Seth Peterson) with him. This turn of events is big for the series, and now that the people responsible for burning Michael have been taken care of, the series will see a shift in the story, which will continue to become more serialized and less "case of the week." Last week the creator and executive producer of Burn Notice, Matt Nix, talked to the digital media about the decision to kill Nate and other changes coming this season.

When the death of a major character is teased in a show’s trailer, it’s often a desperate attempt to raise flagging interest. This time, “Burn Notice” decides to put Sam Axe “Under the Gun,” and it doesn’t really have the desired effect. While giving Bruce Campbell the spotlight is always good value, the result is a generic episode that nudges the plot forward in fits and starts, much like the Charger through most of this.

By Jamie Ruby When the fifth season of USA Network's Burn Notice ended, Fiona Glennane, played by Gabrielle Anwar, had turned herself into the FBI on false terrorism charges to stop her boyfriend and formerly black-listed spy, Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), from being blackmailed. He and the rest of the crew must try to deal with that as they try to find a way to rescue Fiona. Anwar was recently interviewed by the digital media where she talked about her role and what's it's like to be for her character to be in prison.

For its second outing of the season, “Burn Notice” delivers an episode titled ‘Mixed Messages’. While that bore some relation to the action, Jesse’s tap dance with a cartel thug and Fiona’s first days in prison, it also reflects on the season so far, early as it is.
