SciFi Vision - Where Fiction and Reality Meet

Homeland 3.1 Review: “Tin Man is Down”

By John Keegan

homeland_iconThe second season of Homeland started off strong, but eventually descended into 24-esque territory, where characters were doing more and more ridiculous things to keep the increasingly ludicrous plot moving forward. It was only the shocking death toll and apparent departure of Brody that made the second season finale so promising. It left the faithful with the obvious question: what would the third season of Homeland look like?

The Good Wife 5.1 Review: “Everything is Ending”

By John Keegan and Henry Tran

thegoodwife-iconI really hope this show can finally dispense with the love triangle subplot that has been going on with Will, Alicia, and Peter now. Last season’s cliffhanger (that really wasn’t a cliffhanger) ended not with Alicia meeting Will at her apartment, but meeting Cary to discuss their new work arrangement. And I think that’s the way to go forward with this series.

Person of Interest 3.1 Review: “Liberty”

By John Keegan and Edmund Boys

person_of_interest_iconLast season, Person of Interest‘s return had the cliffhanger of Root’s abduction of Finch to propel it forward. This season’s opener faces a very different task. The first two seasons have been an extended prologue, with the Machine’s newly-minted sentience and the elevation of Root and Shaw to series regulars recasting the show’s premise and team dynamics. As a result, this feels closer to a pilot, with its need to check in on everyone.

Haven 4.3 Review: “Bad Blood”

By John Keegan

haven_iconMuch like the previous episode, this felt like the writers moving the story incrementally closer to Audrey/Lexie’s return to Haven, while filling the rest of the time with a “Trouble of the Week” episode. Granted, it reintroduced Duke’s “gift” to anyone who may have forgotten how it worked, and it continued to explore the psychological fallout of the continuance of the Troubles (and the meteor shower), but it still felt like the series was marking time until it could really let loose.

Agents of SHIELD 1.1 Review: “Pilot”

By John Keegan and Paul Pearson

SHIELDiconA new show from Joss Whedon will always be a big deal, let alone a spin-off from one of the juggernauts of the superhero genre and one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Expectations are naturally high, but a show like “Agents of SHIELD” was never going to succeed if it tried its best to emulate The Avengers or Iron Man, and in the pilot episode, it wisely doesn’t try. Instead, the Whedon clan have set out to create a different kind of experience: low-key, episodic, grounded in ordinary characters struggling against extraordinary situations, whilst still having the hallmarks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
