The fall season brought a new entry the NBC’s Thursday night lineup: Whitney, a half-hour sitcom created and produced by stand-up comedienne Whitney Cummings. The series centers on Whitney and Alex, a happily cohabitating couple with no interest in getting married anytime soon.
The Sing-Off returned this fall with an extended season, an expanded field of 16 teams, and a new face (Sara Bareilles) on the judges' panel.
The season four premiere of Sanctuary, entitled "Tempus," airs tonight at 10pm ET/PT on Syfy. The episode starts where the finale left off with Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) having traveled to the past in order to stop Adam Worth (Ian Tracey) from altering history. Worth previously traveled to 1898 London to save his daughter, and Magnus knows that he could irreparably change the future, and she must stop him at any cost.
Based on Stephen King's The Colorado Kid, Haven follows FBI agent Audrey Parker, played by Emily Rose, as she comes to the town of Haven and partners with local cop Nathan Wuornos, played by Lucas Bryant. The town is full of odd occurances, all stemming from many of the people of the town who have what they call "troubles." They must try to keep the town safe as they try to find out who Audrey really is.
Sanctuary, which originally started as a web series on Syfy.com, is shot almost entirely on green screen. The show follows Dr. Helen Magnus, played by Amanda Tapping (Stargate SG-1; Stargate: Atlantis) and her team, including Dr. Will Zimmerman (Cruel Intentions 2; The Skulls II), as they use their unique skills to help beings that lay outside of the realm of what most people consider normal. Some abnormals pose no threat, while others need to be kept away from humanity.
Ratings juggernaut American Idol has spawned endless copies all over the world; the quality of those shows varies. There have been at least a half-dozen singing competitions in the last few years and The Sing-Off is the best of the bunch. It's got talented contestants, excellent judges, and a likeable host with actual singing experience, but where this show really stands out is in its emphasis on technical excellence.
