Opening in 1957 in Nevada, the first part of the movie surprisingly takes place at an Area 51 hanger where Indiana Jones has been taken by the KGB, led by Irina Spalko, played by Kate Blanchett. The hanger warehouses top secret items, such as the Ark of the Covenant, which makes a “blink and you’ll miss it” appearance. Wanted, which is loosely based on Mark Millar’s comic book series of the same name, takes its audience on an entertaining ride that does not disappoint. The movie opens with the narration and introduction of Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) as an apathetic doormat, who works a boring office job and ignores the fact that his best friend is sleeping with his girlfriend, coping instead by popping anti-anxiety medication at every turn. Star Trek fans around the world waited in anticipation for the new Star Trek installment, released last Friday. Some fans questioned it would live up to the hype. J.J. Abrams, the director, was admittedly never a Star Trek fan. He made the movie not with the fans in mind, but rather movie-goers in general. However, this movie has seemed to unite fans and non-fans across the globe, earning $72.5 million opening weekend.
