Peacock released new series trailers following its session at the Television Critics' Association Press Tour earlier today.

Peacock Unveils New Unscripted, Comedy, True Crime and Sports Series at TCA

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA – Today, Peacock announced all-new programming at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. New unscripted series EX RATED has been picked up with host and executive producer Andy Cohen, and highly anticipated REAL HOUSEWIVES OF MIAMI is in development. On the comedy front, Peacock has ordered UNTITLED CRAIG ROBINSON PROJECT to series starring Craig Robinson and ensemble comedy BUST DOWN from Lorne Michaels and starring Chris Redd, Sam Jay, Langston Kerman and Jak Knight. Additionally, Peacock announced true crime docuseries JOHN WAYNE GACY: DEVIL IN DISGUISE and sports series MICHAEL PHELPS: MEDALS MEMORIES & MORE. Plus, Amber Ruffin, host of the WGA Award-nominated series THE AMBER RUFFIN SHOW, was included in the 2021 TIME100 NEXT list as one of the next most influential people in the world.

On Thursday, it was announced that on July 15^th Magnolia Network, a joint venture between Chip and Joanna Gaines and Discovery, Inc., will be launching on Discovery+ and the MAGNOLIA app with its full slate of original programming and will replace the Magnolia Network preview that is currently inside Discovery+. Both apps will offer unlimited access to its complete collection of programming and will be at no additional cost to Discovery+ subscribers. Magnolia will also include immersive content such as workshops, recipes, shoppable features, and more. The official launch of its linear TV home with the rebrand of DIY Network will be in January 2022.

Chip and Joanna Gaines, as well as president of Magnolia Network, Allison Page, participated in a Discovery+ TCA panel to talk about what’s to come for their immersive brand and original programming.

Joanna talked to SciFi Vision about the interactive part of Magnolia Network. “I think for us, we've been spending so much time on building this library of content.  I think one thing that we really felt like [has] always been important for us at Magnolia, is giving people the tools, the next steps to be able to say, ‘Hey, I'm inspired by that, but now I want to go do it.’

“So, the workshops are going to be that tangible tool where we're going to have people who really know their trade, whether that's design, cooking, painting, whatever it is, so that if you're wanting to kind of deep dive into some of these topics or subjects and learn more about it, you can almost be taught by the experts. 

TThe new comedy series starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, which is yet to be titled, is coming soon to HBO Max. The Untitled Jean Smart Series follows Smart as Deborah Vance, a legendary comedian who is told she needs to improve her act to reach a broader audience. Hannah Einbinder stars as the young entitled comedy writer Ava, who’s chosen to write jokes for Vance. The series also stars Carl Clemons-Hopkins as Marcus.

Executive producers Paul W. Downs (who also stars as Jimmy), Lucia Aniello, Jen Statsky, and Michael Schur, along with stars Smart, Einbinder, and Clemons-Hopkins, recently talked to journalists in the TCA panel for HBO Max which SciFi Vision attended.

During the panel, Smart talked about shouldering the responsibility of being the lead of the series and also working with Einbinder. “…Certainly I feel a big responsibility, but it's been so much fun that I haven't really worried about it.  We have an enormous amount of freedom, thanks to our amazing writer/producers and they let us improvise. 

The first three episodes of the new original series, Genera+ion, premieres on March 11th on HBO Max. Two episodes of the dramedy, which was created by Zelda and Daniel Barnz, who also serve as executive producers, will follow on March 25th, with another on April 1st. The rest of the season will come later in the year. Genera+ion is a 30-minute series that follows a group of diverse high school students and their exploration of their sexuality as they deal with what life brings them.

Stars Nathanya Alexander, Chloe East, Lusitania Maxwell, Haley Sanchez, Uly Schlesinger, Justice Smith, and Chase Sui Wonders, as well as Zelda, Daniel, and executive producer Ben Barnz, recently joined the HBO Max TCA panel to talk about the series with journalists.

Zelda and Daniel Barnz, who are also both writers on the show, talked about balancing the issues of race and sexuality through the eyes of multicultural characters.

According to Zelda, “We drew a lot of inspiration from authenticity and real-world influence when we were writing and creating the show.  I think if you're basing a show off something real and authentic, something that's real and authentic is intersectionality and people who identify across the gender and sexuality spectrum and with different races and different ethnicities.  So, I think it’s important to remember that they're not just people who are straight and gay; there's a whole spectrum and all those identities deserve to be represented.”

This May, the series In Treatment returns for its fourth season to HBO and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.

Although considered a fourth season, this series is a reimagining and is set in present-day Los Angeles. The show stars Uzo Aduba as therapist Dr. Brooke Taylor. Dr. Taylor’s sessions bring diverse patients dealing with modern issues, including the current pandemic and other recent major events.

In preparation of the series premiere, executive producers Jennifer Schuur and Josh Allen, along with star Aduba, recently talked to journalists during a virtual TCA panel as part of the winter press tour which SciFi Vision attended.

The executive producers talked about the decision to not only move the series to Los Angeles, but also the decision to feature a black female therapist and the challenges involved.

On Sunday, April 18^th, the new series, Mare of Easttown, created by Brad Ingelsby and starring Kate Winslet, will premiere on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max. The limited series follows Mare (Winslet), as a detective investigating a local murder in Pennsylvania while also dealing with her own problems.

In preparation, Ingelsby, who also serves as a writer and showrunner on the series, as well as executive producer and director Craig Zobel and star Winslet, recently talked to journalists in a virtual TCA panel as part of the winter press tour in which SciFi Vision was able to take part.

When discussing what it was that first interested her in the project, Winslet told SciFi Vision, that when she got sent the first two episodes she was in the middle of filming Ammonite.  “Wrapping my head around how I would make this jump from the character I was playing at the time to being Mare Sheehan, it was like one of the biggest challenges I think I've ever been slapped with.

Recently, the CTV series Jann was released on Hulu. The comedy series, starring Jann Arden, follows Jann, a fictionalized version of herself. Jann is a singer-songwriter struggling with the reality that her music career is waning while also juggling her newly single lifestyle and family. Can her new manager help her to reinvent herself and rebrand her image?

Arden recently talked to SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview during a junket at Hulu about working on the series, including how much is from real life, how it came to be, and more.

Today, Apple held a press junket with creator and executive producer Ron Moore and executive producer Ben McGinnis to talk about the new augmented reality app For All Mankind: Time Capsule, released today, which brings the world of the series right into your home. Through the app you can uncover memories from Danny Stevens (Casey Johnson) and his parents, astronauts Gordo (Michael Dorman) and Tracy Stevens (Sarah Jones), through keepsakes of Danny’s that will give you insight to the events that took place between seasons one and two.

Available today, "For All Mankind: Time Capsule" is a new augmented reality (AR) experience that brings the world of the popular Apple TV+ series "For All Mankind" right into the homes of fans to uncover memories from the lives of Danny Stevens (Casey Johnson) and his parents, astronauts Gordo (Michael Dorman) and Tracy Stevens (Sarah Jones), in the decade between season one and season two. Through an interactive AR experience, fans join Danny as he examines keepsakes full of details about the off-screen lives of the characters and world of "For All Mankind,” where every object tells a story. 

“AR presents a new and exciting opportunity to bring the world of "For All Mankind" literally into the homes of the audience in a way that hasn’t been possible before,” said Ron Moore, creator and executive producer of "For All Mankind." “I was intrigued from the very beginning at the idea that we could use AR to immerse the audience in the alternate history aspect of the series, explaining and illustrating some of the historical events and technological advances that are implied in the show but which we never had a chance to fully present. Using this technology allows the audience to immerse themselves into the series by interacting with objects, people and media in an impactful and meaningful way that will bring them even closer to world we’ve created.”
