Hulu’s annual Huluween celebration continues tonight with an original horror comedy, Carved. The film is set on Halloween 1993, when the staff of a historic pioneer village attraction must work together to survive a relentless assault by a monstrous killer pumpkin set on revenge. Genre fans won’t want to miss this brisk (94 minutes!), well-made film, which will make you think twice about visitng the pumpkin patch this weekend.

In his first feature, writer/director Justin Harding deftly balances horror and humor, mixing the gore with just enough jokes to keep the film light, but not silly. Harding has also assembled a great ensemble, which includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Andi Mack, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.), Corey Fogelmanis (Ma), Wyatt Lindner (Afraid), and DJ Qualls (Z Nation, The Man in the High Castle.) But the real star of this show is the murderous gourd hell-bent on picking off the humans one by one.

In a quick interview, Harding and Lee spoke with SciFi Vision about adapting Harding’s original idea, working with the large cast, and bringing the freaky fruit to life using a number of practical and computer assisted techniques.  The movie premieres today (October 21) on Hulu, so turn down the lights and stream Carved tonight!

***The following is review/breakdown followed by a detailed recap of episode 305 of FROM, “The Light of Day,” and it contains spoilers for the episode.***

While not quite as fast paced as last week, the story did move forward in the fifth episode. Throughout it, the pressure is clearly becoming worse for Boyd as he snaps at everyone around him, although usually with good reason. I feel like as much as everyone looks to Boyd for the answers, with both not dealing well with the food crisis, and then what happened to Tian Chen, people may have become less apt to trust his plans without question, which is really shown throughout the episode, starting with Randall.

When Randall is brought in with his face sliced up, everyone as usual seems to look to Boyd, but I think it shifts a bit when he starts screaming that it’s his fault and that he left him out there. Boyd’s not infallible, and I think this episode really highlights that.

During all this, Jade, as usual, wants answers and puts himself in the middle of what’s happening and ignores Jim as he tries to kick him out. A lot of people questioned why Jim didn’t go to look for his wife at the tree that Victor took her to, and apparently he did, which he explains to Jade. The exposition at least clears that up, although I feel like it should have been mentioned a lot sooner, since Tabitha was missing for half of the season. Jade is annoyed that he thought it wasn’t relevant. Jim just says the place is great at messing with their heads, which is pretty much a 180 for Jim, because before he was the one taking risks to get answers, like with the radio, but he finally seems to be more worried about his family, as he should be. One can only wonder how long it will last before he does something else questionable. At any rate, Jade knows that people besides him will be demanding answers, and with the meeting on the horizon, it seems likely.

In tonight’s all-new episode of FROM, Victor (Scott McCord) must face his past, while Boyd (Harold Perrineau) struggles to keep the townspeople calm and safe with the news that there could be a way out of the town. Meanwhile, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) tries to adjust to being back in town and all that comes with that, while her daughter, Julie (Hannah Cheramy), continues to struggle to cope with her trauma. Jade (David Alpay) tries to put together the pieces and get closer to some answers.

During the late 1980s, during the "Satanic Panic," a well-liked varsity quarterback mysteriously disappears, and a group of high school misfits in a struggling heavy metal band decide to seize the opportunity to gain fame by branding themselves as a Satanic metal band, capitalizing on the towns new obsession with the occult. However, things don’t go according to plan when a series of strange kidnappings, murders, and alleged supernatural events occur, leading to a witch hunt pointing to them as the prime suspects.

Recently, stars Emjay Anthony, who plays Dylan, Chiara Aurelia, who plays Jordy, and Kezii Curtis, who plays Spud, spoke with SciFi Vision about working on Hysteria!

The series, which is based on Patel’s own personal experiences, follows the Pradeep family as they navigate their first months in America after moving from India. Uniquely told through hilarious and often conflicting flashbacks from an interrogation room, the family recounts their interactions with a neighboring family who is the polar opposite of them, often leading to many unforeseen twists.

Patel, who also serves as writer and executive producer on the series, recently spoke with SciFi Vision about creating the series, including which character specifically comes from his own experiences, his family’s reaction to the series, and much more.

Stars, Naveen Andrews, who plays the father of the Pradeep family, Mahesh, and Ethan Suplee, who plays his neighbor, Jimbo Mills, recently spoke with SciFi Vision about the new comedy series.

The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh was something quite new for Andrews, which was part of the appeal for him. “I guess the reason why I wanted to do it was because I'd never done anything quite like that before, the form, which is a half-hour sitcom,” the actor told SciFi Vision. “It turns out that form meant that we could do things that perhaps you wouldn't be able to do with conventional, straight-on drama.”

“To Naveen's point, I think there is some leeway with comedy where you can get away with a little bit more, or maybe not get away with more, but you can do something in a way that isn't so heavy,” explained Suplee to the site. “The levity gives you more breath to work with.”

Today, the new horror film Smile 2 opens in theaters nationwide. A sequel to the original film, Smile 2 follows Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), a pop star who is about to start a global tour when she starts experiencing terrifying and unexplainable events, including hallucinations of people smiling. Overwhelmed by the pressures of fame and what is happening to her, Skye is forced to face her dark past and get control back of her life before it’s too late.

Peter Jacobson (House, Colony) plays the role of Morris, a mysterious outsider who has a connection with the terror and crosses paths with Skye. Morris tries to convince Skye that he can help save her.
