***The following is a detailed recap of episode 404 of FROM, “Of Myths and Monsters,” and it contains spoilers for the episode.***

Boyd, Donna, Tabitha, Jade, Ellis, and Henry are at the sheriff’s station standing around the Man in Yellow’s suit. Henry says Miranda painted what she saw, including a man in a yellow suit and questions it could be the same person. They talk about Victor recognizing it. Ellis asks that if the suit is there, where is the person who wears it? Boyd says he could be long gone for all they know. The suit could have been there for years, or maybe the monsters left it to mess with their heads, but they don’t know. Boyd says they need to talk to Victor, but Henry wants to talk to him alone. Henry says the Boy in White said they're running out of time.

After Henry leaves, Donna asks if Henry knows about Miranda and Tabitha. Tabitha says they don’t even know if it’s real, which Jade clearly disagrees with. Boyd says Tabitha is right; they need to be sure. Boyd says that for now they need to keep all of this just between the people in the room. Jade tells Tabitha that if Miranda was able to paint him there may be be something in her mind about who he is.

Donna questions Boyd is okay with Jade taking the magic mushrooms he found in a haunted forrest to find out answers. He tells her he’s not, but he’s also okay with waking up every morning and counting how many bodies are out there. They are losing. He won’t say that to everyone, but they are losing, and they still don’t know the rules. If there are answers they need to find them out. He’ll be with Jade if anything goes wrong. Donna tells Ellis there are people waiting to go to the settlement for the food run and the two of them leave.

Tabitha tells Boyd she wants to talk to Jade alone.

Sophia is reading the priest’s letters when Sara comes in her bedroom wanting to talk. Sara assumes Kenny told Sophia what she did and questions why she wanted to live there. Sophia says it’s because Sara was kind to her. She knows what she did was terrible, but her father used to say only good people are tortured by the bad things they've done. Sara says she’ll go make them breakfast.

After she leaves, Sophia closes her eyes and whispers in another language. On the stairs Sara starts screaming, clutching her head begging for it to stop. Sophia comes down to help her.

Tabitha asks Jade why he was in the woods with Ethan and he tells her about the Lake of Tears. He also tells her that sometimes kids feel more comfortable living in their imagination, believing in impossible things. She tells him she’s sorry about what she said in the barn. He tells her not to be, because she wasn't wrong.

Boyd comes back in, asking if everything is all right. Jade says, “If you can tell me the last time everything was all right, you win a cookie.” Boyd asks if he’s ready. Jade says he is not, and he eats the mushrooms anyway.

Tabitha comes to talk to Ethan, but he’s up in his room trying to get Jim on the radio. He hides it when she comes in. She asks why he didn’t tell her about the Lake of Tears and went to Victor and Jade. He says he knew she wouldn’t believe him. His father told him he needed to find it, and when he finds it, it will prove it was real, that he’s not gone. She tells him to pack a bag; they are going on a trip.

Julie and Randall are on the bus reading Ethan’s books. Randall thinks it’s a waste of time, but he finds something in The Adventures of the Grand Gooligog. He tells her it talks about Storywalker Fred, an elevator repairman who spent weekends storywalking through the greatest adventures of our time.

Tabitha shows up, and Julie tells him to hide the book. Her mother tells her about what Ethan said he saw. Julie questions he saw their father and what it means. Tabitha says she thinks he is grieving, but if she tries to stop him, he’ll sneak out himself. This way, she can keep him safe. She wants Julie to pack for the settlement, but Julie says she isn’t going and insists she won’t be alone because Randall is there. She tells her mother it’s “not like that,” and that she will stay at clinic with Kristi and Marielle. Tabitha talks to Randall outside the bus, surprising him by saying that she knows Julie trusts him and feels safe with him, which is what she needs right now, but asks if he knows what she will do to him if he ever does anything to break that trust. He says he does.

Ellis tells Fatima he doesn't need to go on the food run, but she convinces him she is fine and to go.

On the way out, Donna tells Kenny to keep an eye on Fatima while Ellis is gone. Tabitha walks up with Ethan and asks if she has room for them. She just tells her the more the merrier.

Fatima sneaks back into the upstairs room. Elgin has brought more dirt and a hose. He offers to help more, but she says the rest she has to do herself.

Victor is measuring and checking if the trees have moved when his father tries to talk to him. He tells his father that everything is changing and that he hasn’t measured in a long time and should have been paying attention. Henry offers to help, and Victor shows him how to do it.

Kenny sees water dripping onto the floor of Colony House and follows it upstairs to Fatima. He finds her making something out of the mud.

Boyd reads some letters from his wife and looks at her wedding ring which has an infinity symbol on the inside. He remembers shooting her to save Ellis.

Kenny comes to tell Boyd maybe he should come to Colony House to see Fatima, and Boyd gets Jade to follow them so he can watch him.

Elgin enters the church where Sara is. She stands up to leave but he tells her to stay. She asks if he still sees the woman in the kimono, and he tells her that he doesn’t. She asks if he thinks it’s because he did what she asked, so she leaves him alone. She says she thought for a while the voices were leaving her alone, were done with her, but it turns out they aren’t. She then tells him what they want her to do, which doesn’t make sense: go to the diner and pour a glass of water, take a sip, and then pour it back in. He asks how that will hurt anyone. She says she doesn't know, but there's always a consequence, and that she will have drank from it. She questions if whatever is wrong with her is like an infection and she passes it on and the voices torture someone else. She doesn't want anyone to live like that. He asks what if she just doesn't do it, and she tells him that the voices said something bad would happen to someone she cares about and keep happening until she does it.

Henry tries to talk to Victor, and he gets upset because he interrupts his measuring, but Henry needs him to talk to him about whatever it is he is afraid of. He asks Victor if the man who wore the yellow suit was someone who hurt him. Victor tells him to come with him and he will show him.

Boyd tells Jade to stay in Colony House while he goes upstairs to see Fatima. She tells Boyd she is making a monster.

On her porch, Julie tells Randall about the story. The Grand Gooligog asked Fred about storywalking and how you choose a point you wish to see. Fred replied you have to create a bookmark. By leaving one, he could choose whatever chapter he wished to visit. So, she thinks they have to make their own bookmark. He thinks its crazy and just a kid’s book, but she asks what if storywalking existed there in the town first. Everything there is impossible but also real. What if all the crazy stuff that happens there has been seeping out into the world. She explains her mother had nightmares about the place and didn’t realize she was dreaming about the town. She suggests that maybe others, including children’s book authors, have too. An author could have had a dream about someone like her doing what she can do and woke up and wrote it down and called it storywalking. He tells her there are thousands of books with stories and rules about traveling through time and questions why this book would be the one that explains anything. She tells him that because out of all the books, this is the one Ethan had with him when they came there, and maybe it means something. She says it could be fate; it could be an instruction manual on how to save her father. It is all she has, and she is going to try whether he helps her or not. He just asks her what kind of bookmark she needs.

Fatima tells Boyd he doesn’t have to worry about her and that she wasn’t trying to hide what she’s doing from Ellis. He’s been so worried that she figured when he was back from the food run, he could see it, and it would be easier to explain. Boyd says to explain it to him. She says where she grew up beliefs were rigid and defined. Her father would tell her stories of all the different faiths, and it would drive her mother crazy, because she understood how dangerous it was. But he would just smile and say “Fatima they have it wrong. They all think their road is the only way. Don’t they understand all roads lead to the divine, they simply take different paths to get there?” Of all the fables and myths he told her, this is a story she’s been thinking about. She asks Boyd if he knows what a golem is.

Boyd tells Kenny that she’s making a golem: a part of religious folklore, a giant made a clay. It protects people, a champion, a symbol of hope and to maybe, for now, just give her some space. Kenny questions this. Boyd says she not hurting anyone, but Kenny tells him that they have both seen the place change people little by little until you turn around and the person you knew is gone. That person is not the Fatima they know.

Donna asks Tabitha  what she's doing out there. Tabitha tells her that she doesn't know what shes doing, and she keeps questioning what they are supposed to do now that Jim is gone. She has memories that belong to other people that might have answers, but is terrified what it will cost if she goes too far or remembers too much. She thinks she’s failing. She’s worried about what will happen when Ethan learns the Lake of Tears is not real and doesn’t know how to deal with that. Tabitha tells her she doesn’t know how to do it alone, and Donna tells her she isn’t alone. Donna tells her she doesn't want to find another one of those notes from her again, and she is not going to put her in the position to explain to her kids why she’s alive and their mother isn’t. They are as much her family as any she’s ever had. Donna tells her that from now on, if anyone going to risk their lives to do something stupid, it's going to be her.

Ethan interrupts, calling his mother his over. There is a hurt bird. Ellis says it looks like its wing is broken. Ethan points out they only ever see crows and that they need to take it with them. It’s a sign. If it is the Lake of Tears, it will fix it, and they will know.

Sophia stairs down at the pool. From the diner Kristi and Marielle talk about how hard it must be for her. They can’t tell if she’s handling it well or hasn’t accepted it yet. They talk about her praying a lot. Marielle says one thing about NA she couldn't stand was giving yourself up to a higher power. If there was ever proof no one was looking out for them, it’s the town.

Sara pours herself a glass of water and drinks it. Bahka talks to her, telling her that if ever wants to come back to the diner, she could use the help. She says that she wasn’t there when she did what she did, but who she’s become while she has known her, that girl deserves a place. She tells her to think about it. Sara, now unsure, asks her if she can dump out the glass out for her. She does, and Sara hears Sophia scream. She and Kristi and Marielle rush out she to the pool. Sophia has hurt her arm and tells them it felt like something pushed her. Sara rushes back into the diner and takes a drink and pours it back in the pitcher.

Jade comes outside to talk to Boyd who is sitting on the porch. He questions about Fatima, because he eavesdropped. Boyd says he doesn't know if he should be stopping or helping her. Jade says that if it wasn’t for what he and Tabitha remembered, he wouldn’t have considered taking those mushrooms. The point is, something changed that made him realize he had to do something drastic, even if everyone thought he was insane. So, maybe the question Boyd should ask isn’t why she is making it, but why she’s making it now.

At the settlement, Donna tells everyone that the more food they collect before dark, the earlier they can leave in the morning. Ethan wants his mother to take the bird to the lake with him.

Randall comes into Julie’s house with the supplies she asked for. Julie, who is cutting her hair, says the monster grabbed her by the hair, and it is not going to happen again.

At the ruins, she tells him that she will fold up a piece of paper, bring with her, and whatever chapter she’s in, she will draw the symbol on the paper and leave there. If it works, the symbol will also be on the paper in her pocket. From that point forward, whatever point she wants to visit, she will write it in the fold on the paper and cross the threshold and that's where it will take her. If it works, it changes everything.

Julie storywalks and shows up in 1978 with all the bodies from the massacre. She sees the Man in Yellow eating one of them. He runs after her, but she writes on the paper and drops it and runs. Randall pulls her out, but she is very upset to discover there is nothing on the paper. It didn’t work.

Victor digs near the peach truck. He gives Henry a bag with drawings of the Man in Yellow. He tells his father that he came in car like the rest of them. He thought his yellow suit was funny. They brought him in and made him their friend, but he wasn’t like them. When everyone died, he found his mother by the bottle tree and saw he was eating her. Henry understandably breaks down.

Kristi tells Sophia her arm is broken, but she has to wait until the swelling goes down to reset the bone. Sophia says it’s just another test. God is testing them to allow them to put their faith in Him. She asks them if they know the story of Abraham. As she tells them, the scene switches to Sara staring at the water, waiting for something to happen. Sophia says that Abraham had an unshakable faith and obedience to God. One day God tested him, ordering him to kill his only son as a way to prove his faith, but at the last moment, God intervened and offered a ram to be sacrificed instead. Sara is confused when Bahkta dumps out the water. Sophia tells them that God never intended for Abraham to kill his son, he simply needed to know if he would.

Boyd and Kenny come in to talk to Fatima again. Boyd wants to know why she is making this now, and not to let the place make her be afraid to talk to him. She tells them that she still feels the thing she carried inside of her, like they’re connected. A part of her feels what he feels. Boyd questions she thinks this will break the connection. She says it goes both ways; he feels what she’s feeling too. He feels how afraid she is and likes it. Making this golem makes her feel strong and less afraid. It's the only way she knows to fight back.

In the hall, Kenny questions whether it could help. Boyd tells him that all things considered, having a champion in their corner is not the worst thing right now. Kenny says he will spread word to let her be.

Suddenly Boyd sees a wedding ring fall down the stairs. He picks it up looks at the infinity symbol on the inside, just like his wife’s ring. He tells Jade they have to go and takes him back to the station and rushes into his room. He sets the ring down and gets out her wedding band; it’s the same. He turns back to where he set it down a second ago, and that ring is gone.

The people at the settlement are pulling up cabbage, talking about their favorite Saturday morning cartoons. Meanwhile, Ethan, Tabitha, and Donna take the bird to the lake. They drip water on the bird.

Roger finds a rope buried that extends into the lake and pulls it. Something big covered in seaweed rises to the surface of the water.
