Released today by Magnolia Pictures, in theaters and on Demand, Karen Cinorre’s fantasy film Mayday follows Ana, played by Grace Van Patten, who suddenly finds herself in a new and dangerous place on the coast where women are in a war with men, who they lure to their death with radio signals.

Van Patten recently spoke to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about the film, including what drew her to the role, what she found challenging, how she connected to the character, and more.

She told the site that when choosing characters, she looks for depth. “I do find it's getting better, but that's hard to come by with female roles, and when I see that there's depth or layers or complexity to any character, I'm so intrigued, because when [I] see that there's opportunity beyond the page, that excites me a lot.”

The actress loved the script. “I read the script and instantly was so drawn into it and transported, and [it's] not very often I read a script and I just want to read it again. I reread it, and I found that every time I read it, I found something new: a new meaning, a new little gem. And I thought it was so magical, every part of it: how it explored sisterhood and connection and grief and empowerment. I was instantly hooked, and I met Karen, and she's such a visionary and had such a specific eye for what she wanted, and I just I knew I had to be a part.”

The film Nine Days, which is now in theaters nationwide, follows the character of Will (Winston Duke), who spends his days watching live points of view of the people on earth on a set of old television screens. When one of them dies, it’s up to Will to test and choose from a group of unborn souls, including, among others, Alexander (Tony Hale), Maria (Arianna Ortiz), and Mike (David Rysdahl), who will take their place.

Hale, Ortiz, and Rysdahl recently talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about the film, including which characters they are most like, what first attracted them to the parts, and what moments they would like to relive if they could.

FEAR, or Fear Everything and Run, which is now available to own on DVD and Digital, takes place in an apocalyptic landscape after a pathogen has been released and cities are zoned and sealed off. Ethan (Jason Tobias) and Josephine (Marci Miller), struggle to keep their family, including their daughter, Mia (Cece Kelly), who is on life support, and son, Josh (Danny Ruiz), alive while scavenging for supplies and keeping the dead at bay.

Things go from bad to worse when armed bandits raid their supplies. While defending their home, Joe is hurt, but so is the marauder’s matriarch, Desiree (Susan Moore). After a battle, there is a standoff, and an agreement is made that Ethan will go with Desiree’s brother, Lincoln (Justin Dray), to their camp to get medicine for Joe and Desiree, and everyone will go their separate ways. Of course, things don’t go according to plan, and no one can be trusted.

The apocalyptic thriller, FEAR, directed by Jason Tobias and Geoff Reisner, follows a young family trying to survive when a group of thieves steals the last of their supplies. With time running out and the infected around the corner, Ethan, played by Jason Tobias, and Josephine (Marci Miller) must do whatever it takes to protect their children and get the vaccines they need.

Star Tobias, who also co-wrote the film with Reisner, recently talked to Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision in an exclusive interview about coming up with the idea, what it’s like writing, directing, and starring in the same project, what it took to complete the movie, and more.

Today, the film Together Together, starring Ed Helms and Patti Harrison, comes to theaters nationwide with a digital release May 11th. The movie, which was written and directed by Nikole Beckwith, follows Matt (Helms), a single man in his 40s, who chooses the much younger Anna (Harrison) to be his surrogate. The two develop an unexpected friendship as they face the ups and downs of surrogacy.
