Written by Jon Avnet, Neal McDonough, and Derek Presley and directed by Avnet, From Angel Studios comes The Last Rodeo. When the grandson (Graham Harvey) of a fifty-year-old retired rodeo legend needs expensive life-saving surgery, ex-bull rider Joe Wainwright (Neal McDonough) decides to ride again. Facing his own painful past and his strained relationship with his headstrong daughter (Sarah Jones), he puts everything on the line as he steps into the bull-riding arena in a high-stakes competition as the oldest contestant ever. Through the journey, he mends his fractured relationship with his daughter and shows that real bravery comes from fighting for the ones you love.

Star McDonough, along with director Jon Avnet, spoke with SciFi Vision about making the film, including how the idea came about, and much more.

The new animated comedy Sneaks follows a pair of one-of-a-kind, collector sneakers, Ty (Anthony Mackie, Captain America: Brave New World) and Maxine (Chloe Bailey, The Little mermaid). When Ty ends up lost and alone on the mean streets of NYC, he falls in with an eclectic cast of shoes who help him learn that your best life begins when you get out of your box.

Rico Rodriguez (Modern Family) spoke with SciFi Vision about his role as Ice, a brash basketball shoe he describes as “a hard-nosed, bully type on the basketball court [who] trash talks, all that, but likes to settle it on the court.”

“Yes, it’s a movie about talking sneakers but it’s a lot more,” he told us. “The message is individuality, trusting yourself and putting your best self forward.” A shoe collector himself, Rodriguez knows what the right sneaker can mean. “These shoes are an extension of yourself and by wearing them you’re more confident, you walk better, you walk taller. And [Sneaks is] about finding the right pair and I love that. It’s a fun movie, and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

In our short interview, Rodriguez also told us how a shoe won him the role, why he loves collecting shoes, and where he stands on the wear-them-or-display-them question.

Written and directed by Chris Reading and narrated by Stephen Fry, Time Travel Is Dangerous, which is now in theaters, is a quintessentially British comedy that blends witty dialogue, quirky characters, and a bit of the absurd with a touching story. The film revolves around best friends Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson, who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill in London. When they stumble upon a time machine, they decide to “borrow” items from the past to stock their shop, aiming to find unique pieces. However, they must navigate the perilous time-space vortex known as “The Unreason.” The film features an ensemble cast, with Ruth and Megan playing characters based on themselves. Set around their actual Muswell Hill vintage shop ChaChaCha, the film adds a real-life documentary element to the sci-fi mockumentary.

In Mix Tape, teenagers Daniel (Rory Walton-Smith) and Alison (Florence Hunt) meet at a house party in Sheffield in 1989 and bond over their love of music. Daniel’s outgoing nature contrasts with Alison’s quiet demeanor, but a spontaneous dance changes everything for them. That night becomes a turning point in their lives, one they’ll carry with them forever. Twenty years later, Daniel (Jim Sturgess) remains in Sheffield while Alison (Teresa Palmer) has settled in Sydney. Both are married with children, living lives far removed from what they’d envisioned as teens. Unable to shake the memory of Alison, Daniel decides to reach out, hoping to reignite the spark that they once shared.

Recently, Sturgess, Walton-Smith, and Hunt spoke with SciFi Vision about the new series, which held it’s world premiere earlier in the month at SXSW Film and TV Festical in Austin, Texas. Mix Tape is set to be released later this year.

Rule Breakers is an uplifting film based on the inspiring true story of Roya Mahboob, a courageous woman who creates Afghanistan’s first all-girls robotics team, the Afghan Dreamers, despite the odds against her. Esin is one of the talented team members who, alongside Roya, faces numerous challenges, including societal opposition and personal threats. Despite these obstacles, the team perseveres and gains international recognition for their achievements in robotics competitions.

The darkly comedic sci-fi romance follows Agnes (Alice Lowe), a hapless woman, doomed to repeatedly fall for the wrong man, Alex, across different eras, only to meet a tragic end and be reincarnated to repeat the cycle.

Jacob Anderson plays the role of Scipio, who shows up in various places across the timelines as different characters, including Alex’s manager in the 1980s.

Anderson recently spoke with SciFi Vision at length about working in the film, including being a fan of Alice Lowe, working with the wigs and costumes, and more, as well as some of his other projects, including Interview with a Vampire and Doctor Who.

The Monkey is a 2025 darky comedic horror film based on a Stephen King short story, directed by Osgood “Oz” Perkins. The plot revolves around twin brothers Hal and Bill, who discover a cursed wind-up monkey that causes gruesome deaths whenever it is activated. As adults, Hal (Theo James) lives a solitary life, estranged from his son Petey (Colin O’Brien), due to fear of the monkey’s curse.

O’Brien, who is also known for his title role in the Apple TV+ series Dear Edward, and as a younger Wonka in the film Wonka, recently spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the film The Monkey, which is now in theaters.

In the dark comedy horror film Bloody Axe Wound, which is out in select theaters on Friday, Abbie Bladecut (Sari Arambulo) finds herself torn between the sinister traditions of her family’s blood trade and the tender feelings associated with her first crush, a rebellious girl in a local band, Sam Crane (Molly Brown). In the small town of Clover Falls, her father, Roger Bladecut (Billy Burke), has established a notorious reputation by recording real-life murders and selling the footage to eager customers. As Abbie becomes more involved in the chilling family business, she starts to question whether it might be time to transform their family legacy into something different.

Homestead is a post-apocalyptic thriller where the world is thrown into chaos after a nuclear bomb goes off in Los Angeles. The story follows Jeff Eriksson (Bailey Chase), an ex-Green Beret, who, along with his ally, Evan Lee (Jesse Hutch), works security at the fortified prepper compound known as The Homestead, which is owned by survivalist Ian Ross (Neal McDonough). The Homestead becomes a sanctuary amidst the devastation happening on the outside. However, as they settle into their new lives, they and their families must all navigate external threats from desperate outsiders and confront internal conflicts that test their unity and resilience. The film delves into themes of survival, community, and the moral complexities that arise when humanity is pushed to its limits.
