FROM tells the thrilling mystery of a town that traps anyone who enters in a nightmare where monsters are real and you should be afraid of the dark. Frightening creatures come out at night, but that’s not the only thing to fear as there are many other terrifying threats in the surrounding forest.

Boyd (Harold Perrineau) declared at the end of season two that the town couldn’t break him, and that’s what season three will put to the test. The first five episodes focus on the town throwing everything it can, particularly at Boyd, to see how he copes, which isn’t always well. As expected season three brings with it new horrors and deaths, and while it brings some new answers, it also opens up new questions.

The food shortage gets dire and tensions rise, leading to a death that shakes the town. The sheriff struggles in the aftermath to keep the town safe, but Boyd isn’t the only one feeling defeated. Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) struggles to keep it together, while Kenny (Ricky He) deals with his own turmoil. Boyd must also make a quick decision later that causes him to break even more.

There may be some hope when a new area of the forest is discovered, but will it bring good or just new evils? Then, when something unexpected happens, people become scared of things they don’t understand and get antsy and think they know better, which can only lead to more trouble.

The other big part of the story at the start of the season of course is with Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), who at the end of last season appears to have gotten out into the real world after the Boy in White pushed her from the light house. Where will she go? What will she do? She finds someone who may have a connection to the town, but will it lead her to answers or only more questions?

Meanwhile, Jim (Eion Bailey) decides to leave to try to find Tabitha, leaving his children alone, which causes tension between him and Julie, who is afraid she might lose another parent and is also struggling to come to terms with what happened to her while in the coma. She might just find a confidant in an unlikely place. Also Jim receives a mysterious message will amp it up even more for their family.

Soon-to-be parent Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) is having problems of her own when she can’t keep anything down, which leads to a frightening discovery.

Jade (David Alpay) continues to be plagued by visions as he struggles to put the pieces together, always feeling one step behind. He isn’t the only one, however, as Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) is haunted by his own visions as he remains afraid to sleep.

Victor (Scott McCord) of course also plays an important role, going to an unexpected place as he tries to remember some of what he has made himself forget.

Each episode was crazier than the next and each character brings something to the table. As much as I love the mystery of the series the most, it’s the characters that brings it home. It’s hard sometimes to care about all the characters in such a large ensemble, but with From everyone not only has a part to play, but the writers have done a really fantastic job to keep me interested in all their lives.

Boyd in particular this season I found to be the most compelling, and Perrineau shines. He is forced to face atrocities that I at times found hard to watch, but in the best way. Boyd is the glue that holds the town together, and when he starts to fall apart, I fear it will cause ripples through everyone.

I also continue to love Jade, who is my favorite character. I feel a lot of times like he represents the frustrated fan trying to figure out the puzzle. He always says what’s on his mind without censor (although maybe sometimes shouldn’t!).

I also was happy (and surprised) to see Randall (A.J. Simmons) step up finally as he helped amidst the chaos getting some people to safety and therefore became a more empathetic than last season.

As for the story itself, the scripts continue to weave an enthralling story, which will make you question everything and want to rewatch it all to search for clues. This season is no less exciting than the first two. The pacing and tension is ramped up even higher as the town continues to screw with everyone, especially Boyd, and each episode will leave you gasping. I think, however, the part that interested me through the first five episodes the most was Tabitha being on the outside, giving it a new perspective. The idea that they could potentially be able to leave the town opens up so many future possibilities and gives you hope that there may be a happy ending eventually for at least some of the town.

The series continues to not only pull you into the mystery, but it also is emotional, and it is dark. It will keep you guessing, make you think, make you feel, and scare the crap out of you all at once. Every episode kept me on the edge of my seat. The season is off to a phenomenal start. I honestly can’t wait to see more new episodes and will be watching them the moment they’re available. FROM is truly, in my opinion, the best show streaming right now.
