Descendants: The Rise of Red is a spinoff centered on the Queen of Hearts’ daughter, Red (Kylie Cantrall), and Cinderella’s daughter, Chloe (Malia Baker). The Rise of Red introduces new characters and includes familiar, beloved Descendants. SciFi Vision was able to interview a few of the new faces to the Descendants Universe: Dara Reneé, Ruby Rose Turner, and Morgan Dudley.
 
Dara Reneé plays Uliana, the little sister of Ursula and Uma’s Aunt. Uliana is a new addition to the Descendants universe. Uliana lives up to the villain status in Rise of Red as the main antagonist.

Ruby Rose Turner plays Bridget, the younger version of the Queen of Hearts, whom Chloe and Red meet when traveling back in time. Rita Ora stars as the easily angered Queen of Hearts in the present-day; her younger self Bridget is sugary sweet.

Morgan Dudley stars as Ella, the younger version of Cinderella. Chloe and Red interact with Ella to gain insight into how they can stop the event that makes the Queen of Hearts mean.

Favorite Moments During Filming

Ruby Rose Turner (Bridget): The last day of filming and she celebrated her high school graduation on set with Kylie Cantrall since she was not able to attend.
Dara Reneé (Uliana): When they finally saw each other in costume. She thought they looked like cute Skittles.
Morgan Dudley (Ella): She enjoyed everyday, rehearsing and dancing with her castmates.

Welcome Uliana to the Descendants Universe

Dara Reneé prepared for the part by watching The Little Mermaid all day, studying the creation of Ursula and how the idea came from an iconic drag queen, as well as watching Uma from Descendants and Morgiana from Little Mermaid 2. She took pieces of each of the parts to create her character Uliana.

Stepping into Beloved Characters “Shoes”

Morgan Dudley made this iteration of Cinderella her own. She took a lot of notes on how Brandy carried herself and was able to watch Brandy while filming and incorporated the softness that Brandy has into her own performance as the younger version, Ella.

Ruby Rose Turner states that playing the younger version of the Queen of Hearts is something that hasn’t been done before and it carries with it an expectation and what it looks like and it was a bit intimidating. But once Ruby Rose settled in and embraced her version of Queen of Hearts that she was portraying over the modern-day version, the part was a lot of fun.
