Exclusive Video Interview: FROM's David Alpay on Jade's Visions, Connecting with Tabitha & More

***The following contains spoilers for 3.06***

David AlpayIn tonight’s all-new episode of FROM, while Jade (David Alpay) continues to try to put the clues together, he talks to who appears to be Tom the Bartender (Reid Price) about Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno)’s visions and how they must mean something, yet he doesn’t seem to trust what he himself sees. Recently, when SciFi Vision spoke with Alpay, he talked about why he thinks that might be. “I wonder if maybe there's a chance that because Jade is aware that he's seeing Tom the Bartender, and he's aware that he's having these hallucinations, that maybe he's not the most trustworthy narrator of his own sort of inner monologue,” explained the actor to the site. “It's like at what point do the things that I'm seeing cease to be helpful, and at what point are they delusions that are taking me off the right path?”

Alpay also spoke to Jade’s connection with Tabitha and how it’s important they are sharing information. “That's something that hasn't happened previously, and different characters have different experiences,” said the actor. “It's the totality of that experience that is going to help figure out how to get out of it, whether it's Jade who does it or somebody else…So, Tabitha's got information that Jade needs. Other people have information that Jade needs, and it's a matter of leveraging those relationships, for sure.”

The actor also speculated on things such as whether or not Tabitha even actually returned to Maine, whether Jade is aware Sara (Avery Konrad) killed Tobey (Colby Conrad) and how he would react if he found out, and much more.

SCIFI VISION:
Hi, thanks for talking to me. I appreciate it. I love the show. Jade's my favorite, so great to finally get to talk to you.

DAVID ALPAY:   Jade's my favorite too, I'll be honest.

SCIFI VISION:   Yes, good, I'm glad.

DAVID ALPAY:   I'm not biased at all, just absolutely my favorite. Such a fun character to play.

SCIFI VISION:   So, he talks to the barman, Tom. He talks about his visions to the vision, [laughs] and he seems to put more stock in what Tabitha sees as opposed to what he sees. He says if she sees something that has to mean something, and he says his could be garbage he doesn't know. I just was curious; does he look at his own visions differently? Maybe he doesn't.

DAVID ALPAY:   Yeah, it's really interesting. I wonder if maybe there's a chance that because Jade is aware that he's seeing Tom the Bartender, and he's aware that he's having these hallucinations, that maybe he's not the most trustworthy narrator of his own sort of inner monologue, you know? It's like at what point do the things that I'm seeing cease to be helpful, and at what point are they delusions that are taking me off the right path?

You know, it's interesting too, because Tom the Bartender is the one that tells Jade, “Hey, listen, maybe you want to quit drinking because you're losing your grit; you're losing the resilience that made you push through, create this company. If you had a little bit more of that now, you might be able to not be so sensitive and not be so affected by everything and stay on the path and solve this problem without feeling like you're losing it.” But how do we necessarily know that Tom is trustworthy?

I'm just like speculating here. Boyd has this moment of realization when it comes to Khatri. He has this definite realization when he's talking to the ghost of his wife, who isn't his wife. It's just like the energy of the town manifested to throw him off the track, and I wonder why it is that Jade doesn't necessarily suspect Tom of being like a bad energy too.

SCIFI VISION:   Yeah, hard to know what's real and what's bad and what's good.

DAVID ALPAY:   Yeah, it's really hard to know. It's very desynchronous.

SCIFI VISION:   So, talk about his relationship with Tabitha. I mean, do you think that they kind of have a kindred spirit? I mean, he doesn't seem like he's just [using] her for information. They seem to get along really well. So, talk about that.

DAVID ALPAY:   Well, I think their goals are aligned. I think, the best thing that Tabitha could have done was come back to town. Whether or not she brought anyone else with her, it was just proof that you could leave and come back. And that lends credence to the idea that there's a portal that works both ways. It's not just one way. It's not just like leaving, and then you're stuck in a mountain somewhere, or what is this bottle tree? Does it actually work? Because there's no real proof. Besides Victor throwing in a rock and then having it land again, you know, what does this tree actually do? Does it connect to the outside world? Now we know that it does. Or does it?

I mean, are we definitively sure that Tabitha actually left the town and went to the real world? I don't know. It feels like a...

Well, let's just say that it is, right? Let's just say that Victor's dad does exist in the real world, in real Camden, and comes back to town. But again, it's like you start second guessing everything. You start questioning what is real and what isn't.

In terms of their relationship, that's a really good question. I think it's important for them to be sharing information. That's something that hasn't happened previously, and different characters have different experiences. It's the totality of that experience that is going to help figure out how to get out of it, whether it's Jade who does it or somebody else.

But Jade is definitely the one actively searching for clues and looking for all the puzzle pieces. So, Tabitha's got information that Jade needs. Other people have information that Jade needs, and it's a matter of leveraging those relationships, for sure. But what are you really asking? [laughs]

SCIFI VISION:   I have got a fan question. Why do you think Jade has not talked to Sara about Tobey and gone after her when he was such a good friend of his? Because he hasn't confronted her about that.

DAVID ALPAY:   Does Jade know that Sara killed Tobey?

SCIFI VISION:   I assumed the whole town did. Maybe Jade doesn't.

DAVID ALPAY:   No, I don't think the town did know that Sara killed Tobey. I think the town knows that Sara killed her brother, but not Tobey.

SCIFI VISION:   I guess that’s true. Maybe just Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and Kenny (Ricky He) still know that. I don't know. I thought everybody knew that. Maybe not. It's so hard to tell with this show. Everything can be so confusing.

DAVID ALPAY:   Yeah, it's really interesting. I have perceived it as she did such a good job of making it look like a monster attack that people just assumed that Tobey died from the monsters in the town. But yeah, that's a good question.

I might have to text John after this and ask him about it. But yeah. I feel like if Jade knew that Sara was responsible for Tobey's death, that he would definitely have feelings about that and do something about it.

Or it speaks to the idea that he's been so distracted by this other mission that he's on that he hasn't even had time to exact revenge. Then, the next question is, what does Jade revenge look like? What does it look like when Jade is vengeful? I don't know.

SCIFI VISION:   That would be very interesting. I'd like to see that.

Well, she told me one minute. It's been more than one minute. I appreciate your time.

DAVID ALPAY:   Well, time flies when you're having fun. Jamie, this was great. Thank you so much for bringing me on your show. Good luck to you.

SCIFI VISION:   Thanks for talking. But I love the finale. It's crazy. I'm waiting to talk about it with people!

DAVID ALPAY:   Yeah, me too.

SCIFI VISION:   All right. Well, thanks so much. Have a good rest of your day.
