The most recent episode of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, “And the Hangover from Hell” opens after a bachelorette party for Lysa (Olivia Morris)’s childhood best friend with the team in disarray when they all awaken with hangovers and total amnesia about the night before. With no memory of their actions, they must work together to reconstruct the events of the previous evening, uncovering magical obstacles along the way. Each member recounts their own version of events. Charlie (Jessica Green)’s perspective stands out as her recollection is presented in a classic noir detective story style as she tries to piece together what really happened.

Recently, Green spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the series, including her favorite episodes and artifact, what it was like dealing with the stunts this season, and more.

SCIFI VISION:  …I keep forgetting you're not American. You all have different accents, and you're clearly good at it, because I don't [remember] it until I get on here. But yeah, I really love the show. They just sent the finale. So, I'm looking forward to getting to see the very end of it for this season, but I'm really enjoying it.

JESSICA GREEN:  What's been your favorite episode so far?

SCIFI VISION:  I like “And the Ghost Train” and “And the House of Cards,” I think, the best. But I also like some of the other ones coming up yet, too.

JESSICA GREEN:  They're actually my two favorite episodes as well.

SCIFI VISION:  Oh, really? That's great.

JESSICA GREEN:  Yeah, I mean, they just look beautiful.

SCIFI VISION:  They're great. They do; they're fun. I like “And the Feast of the Vampyr” too, but I know it hasn’t aired yet…So, talk about what your prep was like for this, and did you go back and watch the original, was the other question?

JESSICA GREEN:  Yeah, so I did, obviously, when you get a role, and there's a franchise behind it, you go back and you watch as much as you can. I didn't want to watch too much, because obviously you don't want to start trying to recreate. You kind of just want to get a feel of the show and what it is.

I'd watched the films prior. When I was growing up, I saw them. So, I knew what it was prior, but yeah, just watching them, getting to know the feel of the show, and then obviously, playing the Guardian, there's a lot of physicality to it, so making sure I'm training and getting ready for the role, getting ready to kick some butt.

SCIFI VISION:  Did knowing that there was kind of already a fan base, and was that daunting at all to you?

JESSICA GREEN:  Yeah, I mean, especially doing a spin-off series where the fans love the original. So, it was very daunting for all of us, because even before we came out, we saw people online saying, “I don't even want to watch it; I love the originals. I just want the originals back,” which, you know, totally fair. We totally get that, but we're like, “Just give us a chance.” We're a little bit different. We're not taking away anything from your originals; it's a different show. You know, same magic, fun and adventure that the fans love. But yeah, we're just like new characters, a new little twist.

I think it's really fun that, you know, we have a Librarian from the 1800s, which is really exciting, and he's so fun to watch navigate this new world. You know, he's just he's like an alien, and I think that puts like a new little twist on this series compared to obviously the original.

But yeah, definitely daunting, but when we did our first little teaser at Electricon, we got a standing ovation from the crowd, and they obviously had fans from the original series there, and so that kind of let us breathe a little bit, and since then, I feel like a lot of them have come around, which is wonderful. It's all we could have ever asked for.

SCIFI VISION:  Right, I was going to say, I like it. I like the original; I like both of them.

JESSICA GREEN:  Yeah, I mean, they're different. You know, it's like the same kind of - similar bones, but different shows.

SCIFI VISION:  Right, right. Talk about the physical part of it. You mentioned that. What's that been like?

JESSICA GREEN:  Oh my gosh, the older I get, I'm like, “This is not as easy as it used to be.” I love it though, honestly. I have so much fun, and every week's different. Like, next week I know I'm getting trained to horse ride, because we've got some horse action, which is the first time in the first, like, two - I don't know if I'm allowed to say this.

SCIFI VISION:  Well, horse riding isn't something you usually see on this show.

JESSICA GREEN:  Yeah, but I'm doing that this week. Like, the other week I was on wires, getting to do wire work, and the week before, you know, I've got daggers. So, it's so much fun, and it's always keeping me on my toes, and I'm trying to learn new things. Yeah, it's really exciting; I love it.

SCIFI VISION:  Did you ride the motorbike at all? Was that for real? Probably not but I just was curious.

JESSICA GREEN:  They didn't let me near that motorbike. I wish. I would have loved to do that. My wonderful stunt double, Sona [Havranova], did that, because yeah, production, episode one, season one, they won't let you even look at a bike.

SCIFI VISION:  Yeah, that was pretty early on.

JESSICA GREEN:  Literally, before I started filming season two, about, I think it was ten weeks out, I actually came off an electric bike and broke my elbow. So, they know not to let me on any motorbikes.

SCIFI VISION:  …You sometimes will have to work with things not really being there. What's that part been like? Is that difficult, kind of acting against nothing?

JESSICA GREEN:  Sometimes. Obviously it's always better if there's something you can physically see. But no, I feel like I'm so used to it now, and I did a show prior to this that a lot of the time I was just looking at a tennis ball or a little bit of tape on the camera or seeing a man in a green suit run around. So, I'm pretty used to it now. But yeah, it is always better to obviously have something physical in front of you, but you've got to just let your imagination run wild a little bit.

SCIFI VISION:  I get that. Charlie has trouble kind of opening up to everybody and feeling like she's part of the group. I mean, I think [she feels more part of the group as the season goes on], but sort of talk about that. And do you think by the end of the season, does she really feel like she's as much a part of it as everybody else?

JESSICA GREEN:  Yeah, so Charlie obviously puts up this really hard exterior. She's tough as nails and she's been hurt in the past, and I think she comes into this where everyone, you know, Connor's character is obviously like, “Oh my gosh, it's all true. This is where I've always wanted to be,” and everything's so exciting for him.

And Lysa doesn't really care if she's there. She's just interested in the scientific aspect and trying to prove that this can't be real, you know?

And then there's Vikram (Callum McGowan), and Charlie's part of it is, “You guys are all kind of falling into this. This is my dream. This is what I've worked on for years, and I cannot screw it up. This is my last chance. If not, I'm getting sent back to the military.”

So, all of them kind of think it's fun and games and this adventure that they're being on, but this is her life. This is make or break for her. So, yeah, she kind of has to wrangle them this season and be the mom of the group and the one that, you know, has to put a stern foot down most of the time. And then, obviously, you see it's because she has this really vulnerable side where she doesn't know if she's good enough, and she doesn't know if she believes in herself, and she's insecure, and you start seeing the walls come down a little bit.

Then, towards the end of the season and into next, you really start to see her let her hair down a little bit and have a little bit more fun with the others, which I love. I wish she could let her hair down a little bit more, to be honest.

SCIFI VISION:  I'm looking forward to seeing that. What's your favorite artifact? I know your favorite episodes, but do you have a different favorite artifact, or is it [from] those ones?

JESSICA GREEN:  Everyone has been asking me this, like if I could have a favorite artifact to take home, I'm taking the magic door. If I could have a little teleportation door in my house, it's coming with me. That's probably my favorite part of the show. Probably that one, even though it's not technically an artifact.

SCIFI VISION:  It still works. It still works. When you said that, I suddenly thought about it. If you could take home an artifact as in a prop to keep, other than the door, because that's kind of big, what would you ask to take with you if you could take anything from the show that we've seen so far...

JESSICA GREEN:  I was about to put my foot in my mouth and say something I shouldn't. From season one, what would I take? Would I take the scrying glass? The little fairy, the time sprite.

SCIFI VISION:  Yeah.

JESSICA GREEN:  I think I'll take that. It was really cute. I'll take that, put it on my shelf.

SCIFI VISION:  That'd be a good one. I know the stuff looks really good. We have a live stream, and we talk about the show, and we were just talking last night about all the books and everything even that they make and bind and all that. That's really cool.

JESSICA GREEN:  Oh my gosh, the set designers here are incredible. All the books you can pick up and you can read, it's incredible what they've done with that set. It's beautiful. They're so talented.

SCIFI VISION:  They put quite a lot of work into it.

…Like I said, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the finale and season two. I'm glad that we find out ahead of time we get a second season and we don't have to worry about it and everything else. That's great.

JESSICA GREEN:  If you like season one, season two is so much more fun. Definitely tune in.
