TERRY MATALAS (“12 MONKEYS”) INKS OVERALL DEAL WITH UNIVERSAL CABLE PRODUCTIONS
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – April 14, 2016 – Universal Cable Productions (UCP) announced today it has closed an overall deal with showrunner
Terry Matalas (“12 Monkeys”). Under the new pact, Matalas will develop and produce scripted programming with UCP for the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment portfolio as well as for external networks and streaming services. The announcement was made today by Dawn Olmstead, Executive Vice President, Development at UCP and Richard Rothstein, Executive Vice President, Current Programming at UCP.
“Terry is a great writer and he's everything you want in a showrunner. He loves big ideas, writes amazing characters and always surprises us where he takes them,” said Olmstead. “We look forward to many more projects with Terry in the future. We’re lucky to be working with him.”
Matalas is known for his work on “Star Trek: Enterprise,” “Terra Nova,” and “Nikita.” He first collaborated with UCP as co-creator and executive producer for the critically acclaimed time travel thriller “12 Monkeys” on Syfy. The series, which was renewed for a second season premiering on April 18th, continues the journey of James Cole (Aaron Stanford), a man from 2043 sent back in time to stop a malevolent organization known as the Army of the 12 Monkeys. “12 Monkeys” is produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment, who produced the original Golden Globe award-winning theatrical film.
“It has been a real thrill for us to see Terry emerge as a visionary showrunner on ‘12 Monkeys.’ Episode after episode he raises the creative bar and we’re incredibly excited to expand his relationship with the UCP family even further,” said Rothstein
"For the last three years, Universal Cable Productions have been incredible creative partners and there is nowhere else I'd rather call home. In addition to ‘12 Monkeys,’ I'm thrilled to be developing new television with the UCP team," said Matalas.
Matalas joins UCP’s rapidly growing catalog of accomplished producing partners including Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment, Doug Liman and Dave Bartis’ Hypnotic, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, Sam Esmail, Chris Bender & JC Spink’s BenderSpink , Charlie Ebersol, and Charlize Theron’s Denver & Delilah.
Matalas is repped by Chris von Goetz and Pete Stone at ICM and Brian Lutz at Brian Lutz Management.
